ARCHITECTURAL DESCRIPTION: 1638 Grove facade: steep front gable with decorative cut singles and Palladian door/windows on gable end. Open porch with wood column supports and spindles, balcony above porch. Center door with window on either side. Large dormers on roof slope. Stone foundation. Brick relieving arches. Stone sills. Overhanging flaired eaves. House retains many original details, including front door screen. 1531 17th Street facade: wood columns and balustrade on open porch with balcony above. Transom over door. Stone doorstep. Second story balcony has wood balustrade. Pedimented projecting towers on second story balcony. Circular window. Decorative cut shingles on tower. Palladian door and windows on balcony. Fan decorations on balcony Palladian door. Stone sills. Brick relieving arches.

Charles W. Haffner had an eye put out by blowing sand while working on one of the WPA road projects. The map was donated by Haffner's grandson, who coincidentally married Henry Drumm's granddaughter.
